The Environmental Insecticide for Grain, Seed and Animal Feed
A Natural Product Composed of finely ground Diatomaceous Earth
(Fresh Water Type)
Does not contain Toxins or Poisons.
WHAT IS PERMAGUARD?
Permaguard is the inert, organic remains of single cell aquatic plants that act as a contact insecticide. Permaguard has the consistency and appearance of a fine white powder with an indefinite shelf life. It will continue to be effective as long as it is available to the insect. Permaguard has the following properties:
low bulk density
high porosity
high absorption
high surface area
The many commercial applications of the product are due to these and many other unique characteristics.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When permaguard is sprayed onto vegetation or crops, it forms a protective repellent which most insects will avoid, thereby preventing damage to fruit, flowers or foilage. If Permaguard comes into contact with insects as it is sprayed, it exhibits a "mechanical" kill that is highly effective yet safe.
Each microscopic granule working into the insects body removing the oily, protective film that covers it, and causing them to dehydrate and die. Since this action is "physical" or "mechanical" rather than chemical in nature, the insect cannot develop a tolerance or an immunity to it.
IS PERMAGUARD SAFE?
Permaguard is not hazardous to humans or animals, when used as directed and it contains no toxins or poisons and will not harm the environment. In fact the USA Permaguard D10 / D20 is registered as Generally Recognized as SAFE (GRAS) as a food additive and is exempt from the EPA Maximum Residual Levels (MRL's) for tolerance when applied to growing crops and raw agriculture commodities after harvest. It is also commonly used as an anti caking agent in flour products to improve flow and in toothpastes as an abrasive.
WHAT ARE POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS?
Insect Control In Stored Grain
Permaguard has been shown effective on grains including rice, barley, corn, wheat, oats, rye, buckwheat, triticale and mixtures of these grains.
Applications of 1 to 2 kilograms/ tonne at point of entry into storage gives long term protection against infestation of many grain insects while leaving no toxic residue. It also prevents grain cracking and it is not necessary to remove before feeding livestock. At the lower usage rate of 1Kg/tonne it also does not need to be removed before the grain is processed for human consumption.
INSECT CONTROL ON FRUIT TREES AND OTHER CROPS
Permaguard can be dry dusted, applied wet, or electrostatically applied to fruit trees and other crops to impede or eliminate many of the various pests common to them. Users have reported successful control of the pupal stages of cucumber beetles, bean beetles, cabbage loopers, tomato hornworms, fruit flies, japanese beetles, tobacco beetles, twig borers, oriental fruit flies, aphids, mites, oriental fruit moths, codling moths, german cockroaches and others.
Permaguard should be applied to cover all surfaces of the crop to be protected, including top and bottom of leaves and foliage. Application rates vary by application methods, crop types and the infestations needed to control. Dry application can range from 8kg to 23 kg per hectare, while wet spraying is recommended at the rate of 1kg: 3/5 litres of water. If used in dry powder form the best effect is achieved if sprayed in early morning or evening when moisture is present on the crop to improve adhesion.
Permaguard is not effective against mucous insects such as earth worms, slugs or snails.
ANIMAL AND STOCK FEED
Permaguard has a number of benefits when mixed with stock feed,. Firstly it acts as an anticaking agent, improving flow. Secondly it will protect and prevent infestation of feed for extensive periods. This maintains the quality of the feed and improves animal health. (It has also been reported for many years in the USA that at a rate of 1.5% - 2% dry weight in feed it can improve dairy cattle milk yields by reducing worms etc. and reduces manure odour and fly attraction).
Permaguard has been shown to be a highly effective product that is safe to humans, animals and to the environment. The security of knowing your crop or grain is safe, coupled with the satisfaction of using an environmentally risk free product, makes Permaguard the protection of choice.
Permaguard is registered with the national registration authority - Reg No. 93P46328A.
